Excessive food intake, sedative life style and genetic factors are believed to contribute to obesity. The World Health Organization reported in 2014 that 600 million people worldwide were obese. HZ-Bio has a collection of animals with naturally occurring obesity with body mass index (BMI) >40. This obesity cohort has been tested against liraglutide in a cross over study in which 10 male monkeys were subcutaneously injected with liraglutide at 30 ug/kg 2 hours before conducting an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) (Fig. 1 & 2).

Liraglutide modified glucose homeostasis indicated by reductions of fasting glucose level 2 hours after injection (Fig. 3) and area under the curve of glucose (Fig. 4) upon OGTT.

Liraglutide also reduced the incremental AUC of glucose (Fig. 5) and insulin (Fig. 6).
